Few woods possess a story as remarkable as Sinker Redwood Burl. Long before this pen ever took shape, the tree from which it came stood among the ancient redwood forests of the American West. During the great logging era of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, some massive logs slipped beneath the surface of rivers during transport and were lost to history. Resting beneath cold, oxygen-poor waters for decades—sometimes more than a century—they were preserved in a state unlike any wood found on dry land.
